After being an all male bastion for more than four hundred years, the Anglican church has just consecrated its first female bishop. This is the latest step in female religious emancipation following the decision to allow women to become priests. But is it time for Islam to follow suit? Would this help to modernise the religion and make it more acceptable to the West. A conference with this aim is to be held in the MIddle East soon. And at its heart is Sherin Khankan, who heads an organisation called Critical Muslims. She's the half Finnish daughter of a Syrian political exile, and she's been talking to Malcolm Brabant.
