Scientists have discovered that reef fish and coral larvae can pick up chemical scents emitted by healthy coral while ignoring seaweed-covered coral, even though they give off similar scents. Because of this new finding, scientists now wonder if fish that appear to just be floating aimlessly are actually making decisions about where to go. To prevent overpopulation of the healthy reefs, scientists are now making efforts to clean up the degraded reefs so that all of the fish can live healthily in a clean environment.
