When Radio 2 started a new series of Sounds of the 50s in March 1990 that decade had only ended 30 years before. Singer Ronnie Hilton was the host. He’d enjoyed a number of hits in the 50s and 60s, including the number one record ‘No Other Love’, but perhaps his best known is ‘A Windmill in Old Amsterdam’ that still gets a play every Christmas Day on Ed Stewart’s Junior Choice. When this recording was made on 4 January 1992 the show had just moved from Saturday mornings to Saturday afternoon. Sounds of the 50s ended in March 1995.
