Sandy Chalmers had a broadcasting career that stretched over five decades from Children’s Hour in the 50s, TV presenter and announcer in the 60s, Radio Manchester presenter/producer and the first female BBC station manager at Radio Stoke in the 70s, Editor of Woman’s Hour and Head of Radio Publicity & Promotions in the 80s, Director of Communications for Help the Aged in the 90s and from 2000 running her media training business and presenting on Primetime Radio.

On 10 September 2010 she was invited back to Radio Manchester (pictured front row centre) as part of their 40th anniversary celebrations to read the 10 am news bulletin, just as she had on day one.

Sandy died just a few days ago.
