The definition of a job is "a paid position of regular employment" but that doesn't really fit with zero hour contracts. Employment Minister Stephen Farry has just announced he will not ban zero-hours contracts in Northern Ireland, following a review of their use. The contracts allow employers to hire staff with no guarantee of work. But, in legislation to be tabled by June, Dr Farry proposes to outlaw contracts that contain exclusivity clauses that prevent people from working for other employers.
