I met Jack when I first moved to LA in 1965 through Charlie Greene and Brian Stone, manic managers of Sonny & Cher. I had moved into a pad in Benedict Canyon. One night Jack visited with his lady, one of Phil Spector's Ronettes. Terrible fight. Had to haul them down the hill to Wilshire, where I left them on the sidewalk screaming and clawing. But... Jack was THE man, the heart and soul of Phil's records as arranger and creator of "The Wall of Sound." Jack was the leader of LA's legendary "Wrecking Crew." By 1967 Boss Radio 93/KHJ was unstoppable. I had more budget than new ideas! I asked Jack if he could do Johnny Mann's indelible "93/KHJ" melody into various :60 arrangements for Boss Radio production beds. We brought in a 50-piece orchestra and Jack did like ten various musical genres. My special request was that one reflect the sound of the great jazz organist, Jimmy Smith. Dig it!
