Last night Sinn Féin councillors blocked a unionist bid to re-name the Newry play park honouring IRA hunger striker Raymond McCreesh. Council officials said standing orders would have to be suspended for the unionist motion to be discussed. In a full council sitting, the proposal to hold a debate was rejected by 15 to 14.
