Many newspapers in Britain were reporting this week with some incredulity a plan to reintroduce a large carnivorous predator to the country. The Lynx UK Trust wants to bring back the European Lynx, a big cat, that has been extinct here for more than a thousand years. It goes alongside the reintroduction of the beaver in recent years and plans to bring back the wolf. It is part of what is called re-wilding - returning parts of a an eco-system to what it should be, to provide a healthy environment. As you can imagine, farmers and some residents are not so keen on having potentially dangerous predators on their land. It's not just Britain - plans have been made in the US and Brazil to return some big and long extinct mammals. George Monbiot is a writer who has championed re-wilding in Britain. He spoke to the BBC's Roger Hearing.
