A leading US official says the biggest anti semitic threat in Europe current comes from a small minority of violent Muslims. Ira Forman, the State Department’s envoy on anti semitism made his remarks in a BBC interview, while touring Scandinavia in the wake of the Valentine’s Day shootings in Copenhagen. A radicalised gang member, Omar El Hussein, killed a security guard during an attack on Copenhagen’s synagogue, after earlier opening fire on a free speech forum, murdering a film director. El Hussein was shot dead by police during an exchange of fire. Mr Forman, also said it was acceptable to criticise Israel’s policies, but anti semitic to oppose Israel’s existence, and to compare Israel’s treatment of Palestinians with the Holocaust.
He has been talking to Malcolm Brabant in Copenhagen.
