If you walk the streets of Juba there is one thing you can be sure to see; Piles of discarded plastic water bottles baking in the hot sun.

While plastic bottles are necessary to deliver fresh, clean water in a city with no access to a drinkable town water supply, the environmental impact of the bottles is mounting.

One recycling project is making an impact on the problem. The environmental Rehabilitation Program in Juba collects, recycles and exports the plastics to China for a new lease on life to become football jerseys, toothbrush handles and a variety of other plastic items.

At the moment they recycle more than 50,000 bottles a day, however they estimate Juba water factories produce ten times that number every day.

Radio Miraya reporter Regina Gorle visited the factory and found that they're not only having an environmental; impact, but also providing employment to more than 60 women.
