May 27 | The Giro d'Italia entered its crucial final phase with a brutal stage in the mountains that took the riders over the Mortirolo and up to Aprica.

Although the stage was won by the revelation of the race, Mikel Landa, it was Astana's tactics when their chief rival, and pink jersey holder, Alberto Contador, punctured that sparked the action, and plenty of controversy.

The way Contador responded, by powering through the groups and back to the front of the race, proved that he was the strongest in the race.

Richard Moore, Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe gather to dissect the latest stages at the Giro, weigh up where Richie Porte goes from here after a disappointing and unlucky Giro and ask whether the sport's unwritten rules are worth the paper they're not written on.
