A salmonella outbreak at an Alberta hatchery has health officials warning people about farm gate eggs. In March, an infected chicken laid eggs at the hatchery. In the weeks that followed, salmonella spread from chick to chick. Here's where things get worrisome. Those chicks were shipped across Canada. Here in BC, they were sent exclusively to backyard farmers. And already, the BC Centre for Disease Control says 13 people have gotten sick.
