Parents in County Down have staged a protest outside Downpatrick Leisure Centre over a threat to swimming lessons at the pool. The new Newry, Mourne and Down District Council is proposing a hefty one hundred and 50 per cent hike in the entrance fee to those taking one to one private lessons. However, the charge for the council's own group lessons will remain unchanged - leading to claims the council is unfairly penalising children with learning difficulties or physical disabilities.
