Former political detainee Pagan Amum is to be reinstated as Secretary General of the SPLM.

The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon at the National Liberation Council in Juba.

The SPLM National liberation council is meeting with the former detainees, or G10, in Juba to discuss crucial issues related to the full implementation of the Arusha Re-unification agreement.

Akol Paul, Spokesperson for Arusha reunification Agreement, told the press this is a significant step forward.

"Today we are united," he says. "There's no more SPLM Former Detainees, no more talk about G10 and no more talk about FD's. This is one Sudan People Liberation Movement under Comrade Salva Kiir Mayardit."

He says all that are left are "technical procedures" for Pagan Amum to resume his position as Secretary General.

"This is good news for the SPLM members and the entire region and the international community."
