The so called fantasy budget is likely to be voted through in the Assembly today. Sinn Fein say they will back it. The Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness says they're doing so conditionally to create space to resolve the problems threatening the Assembly's future. The bill is drawn up as if welfare reform has been agreed and so it avoids immediate cuts of six hundred million pounds. But those cuts are coming. Sinn Fein's Conor Murphy says "the space provided by the likely passing of the budget bill must be used positively to resolve the difficulties facing the Executive." But over the weekend Martin McGuinness didn't sound like he was up for any sort of compromise when he spoke at the London anti austerity rally.
