Akaash & Arjun Tackle USC (or Shut Up & Listen, Dr. Soni is Talking)
After our interview with Dr. Varun Soni last year, we started discussing a way to get more involved with students. We have a strong belief that students are the biggest factor in determining our South Asian American mainstream identity. We also find them fascinating since we rarely get to hang out with them.
We batted around a bunch of different ideas, but settled on the idea of a panel discussion with two professors and two students: one undergraduate and one graduate. One from India and one American born. We wanted as many identities present as possible.
So on April 7th, we did our first ever live event. We didn’t know if we were going to release it ever but a lot of great stuff came out of it and we wanted to share with you guys!
The topics centered around three questions: Are we a South Asian American community? Should we become a South Asian American community? How do we become a South Asian American community?
For the next 35 minutes you are going to hear four individuals from wildly different backgrounds discuss. Enjoy and then tune back in on Thursday to hear as we opened up to the audience for questions….shit got real then folks!
