The Mater Infirmorum Hospital, known coloquially as The Mater, has been at the centre of life - and death - in north Belfast since the late 19th century. A new book tells the story of the hospital, its relationship to the immediate community, and to the state. Roisin McAuley takes a tour of the Mater with Claude Costecalde, the book's publisher, Mary Hinds, former Director of Nursing, and Eamon Phoenix, historian.
