British Dairy Farmers Protest Over Falling Milk Price

Now - what do you get when you see two cows in a supermarket dairy aisle? A symptom of a full blown crisis, according to dairy farmers in Britain. One took his heifers into an Asda store to make his point that the prices some supermarkets and manufacturers pay them for a litre of milk is way too low. On Monday, farming unions met in London to urge the government to provide more help for an industry that has seen a 25% year-on-year drop in the amount farmers are paid for milk. They say many are facing financial ruin. We hear from one farmer in Devon in England about just how much money he is losing and Simon Chantler, Executive Chairman at Meadow Foods, which buys milk to sell onto the food manufacturing industry, tells us about the reasons behind the drop in prices.
