Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta says progress has been made with the peace process in South Sudan.
Kenyatta was speaking at the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) regional summit on South Sudan that was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Monday.
President Kenyatta as rapporteur to the IGAD grouping said peace cannot be forced and acknowledged that the South Sudan government must be given time to consult its people on contentious issues contained in the IGAD-plus fronted proposal.
The agreement was signed by former Vice President of South Sudan, turned opposition leaders Riek Machar, while President Salva Kiir has pledged to iron out outstanding issues within 15 days before appending his signature.
Kenyatta called for the silencing of the guns as the government embarks on its consultations.
