August 24 | The third and final grand tour of the season, the Vuelta a Espana, got underway at the weekend and the first two days were packed with controversy.

Lionel Birnie and Daniel Friebe of The Telegraph Cycling Podcast are joined by British Eurosport's commentator Rob Hatch to discuss the decision to hold the opening team time trial on a beachfront course.

The times for that stage were not added towards the individual standings, which made for an unusual start to the race, but that was nothing compared to the disqualification of Vincenzo Nibali.

The 2010 Vuelta winner, and 2014 Tour de France champion, was kicked out of the race for holding onto his team car to help him catch up with the group of other favourites. Footage emerged of the incident which left officials with little choice but to disqualify him.
