More than 3,200 families in Northern Ireland would be hit if the Tories bring in a £20,000 benefit cap. That's the official estimate from the Department of Social Development if Chancellor George Osbourne follows through with his threat to slash the cap even further than the planned £26,000 cut. The figures were released in a Freedom of Information request to Belfast Telegraph journalist Adrian Rutherford. There are around 22,000 people here who receive more than £20,000 but many claim benefits which are exempt from the cap, such as Disability Living Allowance. That leaves an estimated 3,230 who will be hit if the £20,000 cap comes in. Joining me now is NIPSA president Carmel Gates and businessman and commentator Jeffrey Peel
