Lack of beds sees disabled girl’s operation cancelled twice - @nweir1 reports #BBCNolan

A severely disabled girl, who has been waiting for seven months for a procedure to treat an abscess in her mouth, has had her operation cancelled TWICE because of a lack of hospital beds. 21 year old Holly Trainor, who has a rare chromosome disorder and severe learning and behaviour disabilities, was referred to the Royal Hospital earlier this year - but after getting two dates to come in for a general anaesthetic was turned away on both occasions - leaving her confused and still in pain. Holly has a mental age of 10 and our reporter, Nicola Weir, went to speak to her mum, Catherine, to find out more.

Well, we have a result for Holly and her family. We got in touch with the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust... And in all fairness, they've held their hands up..... In a statement it says that Dental services staff sincerely regrets what's happened to Holly. However, it says that when patients are admitted on the morning of their elective dental surgery it is not always possible to know if the necessary beds will be available until the morning of their admission because of possible emergency demands on beds overnight. But, the Trust says it will now work closely with hospital teams to protect a bed overnight to enable Holly to be admitted on the morning of the surgery when she receives her next date....
