Monday 21st September was the International Day of Peace.

A day commemorated globally every year dedicated to world peace, and specifically the absence of war and violence.

This year the day holds special importance to South Sudan. After 20 months of conflict and earlier years of strife, the people of South Sudan are yearning for peace - now more than ever.

Meet Mari Malek, a young South Sudanese peace advocate. Mari left the country in the 1990’s when she was only 4 years old and went to New York with her family.

She finished school and started a modeling career. She used the International platform to advocate for peace and education.

Mari Malek now partners with UNICEF in Peace and Education advocacy. Regina Gorle had a chat with her in Juba.

We bring you her story.
