Rugby World Cup: Aussies edge past Argentina to face defending champions in the final

Australia 29 Argentina 15 by Michael McCann at Twickenham

Match in a minute from Twickenham where Australia defeated Argentina 29-15 in theIr Rugby World Cup quarter-final through an Adam Ashley-Cooper hat-trick.

The Wallabies scored an interception try after just 70 seconds, as lock Rob Simmons stole a flat pass from Nicolas Sanchez.

Poor Argentina play also contributed to a second Australia try, as Santiago Cordero knocked on when bizarrely attempting a tap penalty in his own 22, leading to Ashley-Cooper scoring from a Foley miss pass.

The Pumas lost key players Juan Imhoff and captain Agustin Creevy to injury, and had Tomas Lavanini yellow carded, before a Matt Giteau long pass setup Ashley-Cooper to make it 19-6.

Argentina fought back in the second-half as multiple penalties from Sanchez left them 22-15 down, but with eight minutes left Ashley-Cooper try scored again after superb work from Drew Mitchell. The winger becomes the first Australian ever to notch two Rugby World Cup hat-tricks, meaning they face New Zealand in the final next Saturday. Michael McCann, Twickenham
