A bit of history was made in the Assembly yesterday A majority of MLAs backed same-sex marriage for the first time, by 53 votes to 52. But the motion was blocked due to a DUP petition of concern. That's an Assembly procedure that requires votes to reach a certain level of cross community support. It failed that test, because the bulk of unionist MLAs voted against. But campaigners for gay marriage still celebrated the vote.

SDLP MLA Claire Hannah, TUV Leader Jim Allister, NUS USI President Fergal McFerran and Rev David McIlveen discuss.
