Thomas Berdych beats Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in ATP 1000 Paris Masters

Match in a minute from the third round of the ATP 1000 Paris Masters tournament, where Thomas Berdych defeated home favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets 6-3 6-4.

Berdych had made the first and only break of the opening set to win it 6-3, critically claiming 77% of his second serve points to just 33% from the Frenchman, though Tsonga did save three set points.

The Czech then broke Tsonga in successive service games to lead 4-0 in the second, sandwiched between the Frenchman receiving physio treatment on his knee, before gallantly recovering to 4-3 down.

Berdych regained his composure to hold serve twice and seal victory, which means he leads the head-to-head between these two 8-3, winning 65 of 99 points in this match.

Novak Djokovic awaits Berdych in the quarter-finals, and the Serbian is currently on a career-best streak of 26 consecutive sets won, and seeking a third straight BNP Paribas title, though the Czech has also won this competition himself back in 2005.
