President Salva Kiir has instructed the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank to realign the exchange rate regime.

In a state of the nation address at the National Legislature on Wednesday, President Kiir said the government is taking steps to address the challenging economic situation in the country.

President Kiir questioned where black-market money changers obtain their money.

"I wonder when I see somebody with no good dress and possessing a lot of dollars, where do they get these dollars from?"

The President also said Non-Governmental Organisations operating in South Sudan should bank their money in the country, further calling on the Legislators to pass the NGO bill.
