Suwon Bluewings beat Jeonbuck Motors to pip Pohang Steelers to Asian Champions League spot By Michael McCann Match in a minute from the K-League, where Suwon Bluewings beat champions Jeonbuck Motors 2-1 to secure 2nd place and an automatic Asian Champions League place, just ahead of chasers Pohang Steelers. A dramatic finale to the season saw Suwon needing to match or better the result of the Steelers, who beat Soeul 2-1 – a late winner from Kaio allowed the Bluewings to do just that. Jeonbuck had dominated the first-half, as Jeasung’s header was cleared off the line and a sharp shot from Kyowon forced home keeper Jung Sungryong into a great save. Suwon improved after half time as Chang-Hoon Kwon tested Jae Sun Ta from long-range, before a superb Ki-Hun Yeorn free-kick gave them the lead. Jeonbuck then improved, as Brazilian substitutes Leonardo and Luiz both went close before with five minutes left Jae Sung Lee stabbed in a deserved equaliser from a corner. Just two minutes later a long ball forward from Suwon found Kaio on the left, with the striker beating Joo-Young Lee before crashing a shot into the far top corner to seal victory. The win is Suwon’s first against Jeonbuck in their last seven meetings, whilst the visitors will be disappointed to end their campaign with one win from their last six.
