"Truth The Leveller" A Homelessness blues by Joy Sheridan
the significance of the title is that stark truth about dire situations levels people, makes them all equal. The song, as you have read and heard, is a narrative ballad describing a horrible incident experienced by Joy when she was homeless and put in temporary bed and breakfast accommodation, dire realities and a gruesome incident pushed under the carpet. How often do things like that happened.
Joy and I did 4 studio Demos - in 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984. 'Truth the Leveller' comes from the 3rd - Lemone. These efforts have lain dormant for 3 decades, but came to light in the course of our mutual archiving.
Incidentally, I did two songs with Joy's words, 'Pippa Pippa' and 'Hobgoblin'.
