Joy (2015)

Today I watched Joy directed by David O. Russell and starring Jennifer Lawrence.

I was very excited when I first saw the trailer for Joy, but as release date approached I caught glimpses of not-so-great reviews and started to lose some of my excitement.

Although I feel like it could have been a lot better, I still enjoyed it and I thought the story was interesting.

Something I forgot to mention in my audio review... Joy's son. Joy's son? Where is Joy's son? His most important seen I am certain he was portrayed by some pillows wrapped in a blanket with a recording of cough sounds. The ol' Ferris Bueller. Even his great grandmother doesn't really care that he exists. "So much I wanted to tell Joy, and my great grand daughter." You have a great grandson too! Good old what's his name. As it turns out, the real life Joy Mangano has three children, so I guess he should be glad he even made the cut!

Also, does he age at a quarter of the rate as everyone else does? At the end we see some undefined number of years into the future, her daughter is nearly grown (let's say at least fifteen), her father has lost an eye (okay that doesn't have anything to do with aging) and her half sister Peggy and her ex-husband are grey haired. And yet her son looks maybe a couple years older than before? Or maybe not, I think we only see him on screen for about 25 seconds total so I don't remember how old he was.

Earlier in the film we see a photo of the son and daughter with Joy and Anthony and they're very close in age but now that I think of it I realize that was actually a scene in Daddy's Home so nevermind.
