Many people have been arrested in Juba for suspicion of participating in a random shooting on the New Year Eve, according to the police.

Those arrested include members of the organized forces and civilians, National Police Spokesman Col. James Monday Enoka told Radio Bakhita.

“There was massive shooting even using heavy Arms like PKM. The arrest is going on. So both members of the organized forces and civilians have been arrested,” said Col. Monday without mentioning the number of those behind bars.

The arrest will continue until perpetrators face justice, he added.

Monday calls on those who sustained injuries or lost property during the shooting to report to the police to assist in investigations.

“Until yesterday when I received the report about the cases of shooting, there was no injury reported so far, but there were bullets found in some compounds,” he said.

Inspector General of the Police in his end of year message cautioned masses against random shooting as means of celebrating New Year 2016.

But still heavy gunshots were heard in Juba and other major towns in South Sudan defying the orders.
