Vanessa interviewed Chris Nixon, LMSW, CAADC, manager of Outpatient Behavioral Health-Eastwood Clinics at St. John Providence Health about winter blues and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). They talked about the difference between the winter blues and Seasonal Affective Disorder and also what is recommended to handle both of them. They also discussed whether or not traveling to a warmer climate can help minimize the effects of this disorder. Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that's related to changes in seasons. The disorder starts and ends at about the same times every year. Symptoms can start in the fall and continue into throughout the winter. This disorder can rob you of energy and can cause depression that continues into spring and even summer. Chris also spoke on how important is it to get away from the winter if you have winter blues and SAD. For more information about St. John Providence Hospital, log on to www.stjohnprovidence.org.
