'Smacking a child is 'often the first form of child abuse'! That's what some experts are claiming. Recent comments from presidential candidate Texas Senator Ted Cruz have sparked fresh debate about smacking. Cruz said he spanks his five-year-old daughter when she lies. But Dr Ronald Pies from SUNY Upstate Medical University criticised his remarks citing research likening spanking to abuse. He says spanking 'takes a toll on a child's mental health' and teaches children that physical violence fixes problems. Do you agree - is it a form of child abuse or is a harmless form of discipline?
