Claude Monet was an eager gardener. But when he was painting the whole idea of gardening for pleasure and creating a private oasis was a very new concept - much like his impressionist style. Previously gardens had been for the nobility but a new exhibition @royalacademy #PaintingtheModernGarden : Monet to Matisse, charts the rise of the middle class garden in the 19th and early 20th century through some of the greatest painters of the age.
