How can a radio programme smell like Brussel sprouts? This does. It sits, for me and many, as simply part of the Sunday lunchtime ritual back in those pre-microwave days.
The 'Clitheroe Kid' was a BBC radio comedy which featured a Northern comedian called Jimmy Clitheroe. Fresh from Variety performance on stage; he arrived in radio-land playing the part of a cheeky schoolboy. Such was his eagerness for authenticity, he even dressed for the part for the radio recordings.
Jimmy was 35 when he started playing the part as the series launched in the mid fifties on the Home Service. It ended, after 290 episodes, in 1972. #JimmyClitheroe
