The word 'microcephaly' has been in the news recently. In South and Central American a large number babies are being born with microcephaly. The newborns have unusually small heads and underdeveloped brains. Scientists believe these cases of microcephaly are caused by the Zika virus. But the condition can be caused by other viruses, as well. One Kelowna family knows this fact all too well. 20 years ago Lorinda and Tony Lenarcic's daughter Tijana was born with the microcephaly.
