STEPHENS STORY PART 2

Feb 23, 2016, 02:41 PM

A Herefordshire mother says the mental health system has completely destroyed her son... And isn't up to scratch.

Sue Clifford from Fownhope claims years of inadequate care has damaged his mind beyond repair and the family are now being left to care for his complex needs without the necessary professional help.

Stephen Sadler - who lost an arm and leg in a double suicide attempt whilst on anti psychotic medication - suffers from the condition Body Dysmorphic Disorder - which affects the way in which a person views themselves.

For Stephen, a combination of stress at work AND a small scar on his forehead drove him into depression, when he spent more than 60,000 pounds on plastic surgery.

After being sectioned and given massive doses of electric shock treatment - his family has pulled him out of the NHS mental health hospital, in fear of him being damaged further.

This week David Cameron has called on the country to focus on mental health, after a review revealed inadequate, underfunded care, with three-quarters of people receiving no help at all.

Our reporter Julie Tyler has been speaking to Sue about where they are now in this extremely complex case.
