Feb 26, 2016, 04:39 PM

Boxing is a family affair for Olympian Michael Carruth, with champion boxers on both sides of his family. Carruth started boxing with his brothers at the age of seven, and has continued to work in the sport ever since. Today he coaches young people as young development officer with the IABA but in this short cut from the How to Win documentary project he shares his winning story. Carruth's dreams of winning the Olympics began in the Drimnagh Boxing Club where his father was the coach and he is a Drimnagh lad inspired by another Drimnagh athlete Eamonn Coghlan.

In this short clip, Carruth talks about the motivations and winning mindset behind his gold medal performance at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and also mentions the people who influenced him growing up as a young boxer with an eye on the Olympic Games.

How to Win is a TV documentary produced by the award winning Athena Media team and it will screen later in 2016 on Setanta Sports. It is made with the funding support of the BAI and the Irish TV licence. The production team is Amy Millar, Helen Shaw and John Howard.
