Vanessa interviewed Ang Hart, Product Manager at Art & Scraps. Arts & Scraps takes recycled industrial materials and reimages it to inspire people of all ages and abilities think, create and learn. They are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in 1989 and located in Detroit. Arts & Scraps seeks to provide quality educational and creative experiences to underserved children in Metropolitan Detroit, while minimizing the negative impact on the environment. They talked about the upscale Fabric Sale which is happening from March 4th to 12th, how they have a community store serving classrooms, community organizations, and Do It Yourselfers. Arts & Scraps has kits assembled by volunteers that bring affordable STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) learning to classrooms and youth serving organizations. They are currently testing different training methods to greatly expand the program. In 2015, they documented 12,000 volunteer hours and are always seeking more groups and individuals to get involved. Arts & Scraps hopes to motivate the community to see value in materials that traditionally have no value and to donate materials for reuse that cannot be recycled in a traditional manner.
