Canadian born David Gell mid-Atlantic voice was a familiar one on British radio during the 1950s and 60s. Gaining early experience with a number of stations in Canada he headed across the Atlantic in the early 50s as the European Correspondent for station CFAC but soon found himself a job with Radio Luxembourg as a staff announcer. Going freelance in 1958 he continued to provide recorded shows for Luxy for the next decade as well as presenting many shows for the BBC Light Programme. Viewers to ITV also saw him on the quiz shows Concentration and Junior Criss-Cross Quiz and pop shows Ready, Steady Go and Thank Your Lucky Stars. He continued to carve out a niche on the BBC as their European music expert on the Eurovision Song Contest and Radio 2's European Pop Jury (1968-1977) and Europe 74 to 77. Returning to Canada, David continued to broadcast for CBC in Calgary before taking retiring in the 2000s.
