Uber said on Thursday that it has settled a pair of closely-watched class action cases that turned on whether the ride-hailing company had misclassified its drivers as contractors.
The proposed deal, which covers drivers in California and Massachusetts, calls for Uber to pay up to $100 million in compensation and fees, and make changes to how the company interacts with those drivers.
The most significant feature of the settlement is that it maintains the drivers’ status as contractors.
