Vanessa interviewed Calvin Colbert, executive director and board chairman for Detroit Impact Center, which has been mentoring kids since 1991. They talked about the history of Detroit Impact and how it first started, the outreach of the organization and the various ways it helps the community, including the age ranges of the children they help. Detroit Impact is a 501(c) (3) non-profit charitable organization that focuses on community development in Detroit’s Westside neighborhoods. They help low income and at risk youth develop a sound values system and positive self-esteem. Their program is a cooperative effort with parents, churches, schools, the business community, and neighborhood residents. They also talked about up-coming events Detroit Impact has planned and other groups and organizations they work with. Calvin explained how someone can learn more about the services Detroit Impact offers, how they can get a hold of the organization and if someone was interested in donating or volunteering, how they can get involved.
