After weekend experiments of frequency splitting, with 'CFM' in 1986, and later the gold format trials from mid 1988, Capital Gold began as a full-time oldies station on November 1st 1988. It was not the first, with County Sound's Gold from Guildford the first full-time oldies station, with GEM AM (East Midlands) being the first 24 hour full-time oldies station.
