Condusive environment for Transitional Justice needed in South Sudan - UNMISS Human Rights Chief

The director of the Human Rights division of the UN Mission in South Sudan, Eugene Nindorera, has advised the Transitional Government of National Unity to create a conducive environment for Transitional justice.

According to the Peace Agreement to resolve the conflict in South Sudan, the Transitional Government of National Unity is tasked to initiate legislation for the establishment of the Truth, reconciliation and healing commission, and independent Hybrid Judicial commission and the Compensation and reparation authority.

Addressing a weekly press briefing in Juba, Eugene, said a conducive environment is one that would enhance the capacities of critical institutional and civil society actors, to engage in and steer an inclusive, participatory, victim-centered and gender-sensitive transitional justice process in South Sudan.
