Thousands of civilians have fled into South Sudan to escape fighting in the Southern Kordofan state of Sudan.

UNHCR external relations officer, Richard Ruati, says there has been a notable increase in the number of refugees driven out by aerial bombardments, hunger and in search for education opportunities for their children.

In this interview with the Breakfast show host David Lukan, Ruati says there here has been a surge in arrivals with up to more than two thousand (2,000) people registered in the first two weeks of May.
