UNMISS Supports efforts to harmonise relations between soldiers and host communities

The Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (ARCSS) signed in August 2015 by the conflicting parties to the conflict in the country contains a provision for the demilitarization of Juba and the deployment of security forces (SPLA soldiers) 25km away from Juba. This necessitated the establishment of seven cantonment sites located 25km outside Juba.

But the cantonment sites have now become a source of discontent from the communities.

The UNMISS Field office in Juba In collaboration with the Local Government, is holding a sensitization event to addressing the tensions emerging from the establishment of cantonment sites.

To tell us more about this initiative is Mr John Ugolo, UNMISS Head of Field office Juba and the Jubek area Minister of local government, Mr Isaac Ribek Benjamin.
