It could ease the demand for GP appointments... But could it also encourage people to 'swing the lead' for longer? Doctors' leaders want patients to be able to sign themselves off work for two weeks before having to ask a GP for a sick note. Employees currently have to get their doctors to provide written confirmation of their illness if they're off for seven days in a row. GPs say the move would cut down on unnecessary appointments.
