US authorities began a major investigation into the motive for a gun attack on police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It left 3 officers dead, and 3 more in hospital. The shooter, Gavin Long, was a former US Marine who served in Iraq. He was killed by police as the attack unfolded.
