Omar Mateen was reportedly taunted with derogatory epithets related to his religion while working as a contract guard at the St. Lucie Courthouse, according to the documents. The insults came from deputies and others, according to the Associated Press.

Mateen responded to the insults by claiming to have ties with the Fort Hood shooter and the Boston Marathon bombing suspects.
