Big hitting performance carries Puerto Rico past Dominican Republic 11-1.
A magnificent effort by Peter Vazguez spurred Puerto Rico to an 11-1 win in four innings over Dominican Republic on Tuesday at Cal Sr. Yard.
Vazguez rocked Dominican Republic with two home runs. Vazguez went 2-3 in the game with two RBIs and three runs scored. Vazguez homered in the first and third innings.
The biggest inning for Puerto Rico was the first. Puerto Rico's bats caught fire leading to nine runs. Puerto Rico scored in the first on a solo home run by Vazguez, an RBI single by Francisco Santiago, an RBI single by Lucas Torres, a sacrifice fly by Yandel Lopez, a passed ball, a groundout by Ramon Rodriguez, an error, and a two-run error.
Renzo Gonazlez brought the heat against Dominican Republic during his outing. Dominican Republic managed just two hits off of Gonazlez, who allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out four during his four innings of work.
Ronelvis Taveras was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in zero innings, walked one and struck out none.
